It’s the Month for Native Plants

It’s the Month for Native Plants

“I urge all citizens to recognize the importance of native plants to Maine’s rich biological heritage.” With those words, Governor Janet Mills declared April “Native Plants Month.” What does that mean? It means we’re celebrating Blue Iris, Beach Plum, Pussy Willow, and Wild Strawberry. We’re rooting for Hazel Alder and Sweet Birch. We’re hoping for more Dog’s-tooth-violet. Looking for profiles? BGC’s friend, The Wild Seed Project, offers a few here, and of course the Maine Extension office offers a robust list of do’s and don’ts.
