Midcoast gardeners eager to start digging this spring are asked by the Belfast Garden Club to remember its annual Green Thumb Plant Sale on Saturday, May 20, at the Belfast Boathouse.
The nonprofit club needs gardeners willing to dig and donate plants to the sale. If you have extra seedlings or divisions of perennials, it is easy to take part. Simply contact sale coordinator Bonnie Irwin at 703-9057 or email@example.com. She’ll find the easiest way for you to donate, whether that means sending a club member to your garden to help ID and dig, or giving you simple drop-off instructions.
The sale is one of the club's two major fundraisers of the year, supporting all club activities, such as scholarships, Civic Beautification work in our town gardens, library book contributions, program speakers and other worthwhile activities.
From the Co-Chairs of the 2016 Plant Sale Committee:
We want to express our great appreciation for the teamwork and perseverance shown by all of you who contributed in any way to the tremendous success of Saturday's plant sale. Our tasks were many and varied and you all addressed them with good cheer, creativity and persistence. We had a wonderful mix of long-time members who gave us the wisdom of their experience and newer members who brought an infusion of energy and different ideas to try. And, we had the added benefit of many spouses/partners this year who chipped in with the last minute chores of making a charming and inviting sale environment. Many people remarked on the excellent organization of the plants and the pleasant ambiance and appearance of the sales area in the Boathouse.
We are hoping that next year even more members will participate and join in the camaraderie and--yes, fun. Don't be afraid to divide your plants! They benefit and so does the Garden Club. It's an opportunity to learn more about your garden and share your horticultural experience and knowledge with others next spring.
With sincere thanks,
Mary and Donna
