Enjoy a Luminous Evening
You can join in Belfast’s Luminary Walk in two ways. The first is to walk along a sweetly lit path among tall trees on the Belfast Rail Trail February 24, from 5-8 pm. The walk is hosted by Belfast Garden Club along with Our Town Belfast. It will cover about a mile of the trail, starting at the Footbridge and ending at the intersection of Water and Pierce streets.
If you’ve never experienced the magic of a candlelit stroll through the woods, you’re in for a treat. Here are a few tips to help you prepare:
- Wear warm clothing: hat, mittens, wool socks, coat with wind-breaking exterior and cleats in case of ice
- Bring a camera to capture the moment and tissues for runny noses
- Bring a sled or a backpack to transport young kids
- Bring a flashlight or a headlamp (just in case)
- If you’re not heading home afterward, a snack with a warm drink would make a fine way to celebrate the memory.
But before that: we’re looking for volunteers to help with making the luminaries or setting up the event. Ice luminary drop off will start at 2:30 pm at the Footbridge entrance to the trail. For further information, contact Pat Blakeslee at pat.blakeslee@gmail.com.
